Great Guana Cay is one of the largest outer cays in the Abaco Chain of the Bahamas. It is 165 miles east of Palm Beach, and about an hour by air from Florida to Marsh Harbour via Continental Express, American Eagle, Bahamas Air, and numerous smaller charter flights. Great Guana Cay is only a 35 minute ferry ride from Marsh Harbor. See Albury's Ferry for schedules and rates.
You will see the main road upon arriving Great Guana Cay - the "Queen's Highway" is just wide enough for two golf carts (the principal island transportation) to pass each other. The small settlement, on the harbor at Kid's Cove, is the hub of island activity. The ferry dock, a grocery, a liquor store and a handful of other shops are here, as is the "Fig Tree", an open air gathering place, and Milo's fruit stand, famous for his fish and island grown tomatoes. Fewer than 200 people live here year round, many of them descendents of British Loyalists who moved here just after the American Revolution. The Bahamian People are warm friendly people always offering a warm smile and hello -- welcoming you to Great Guana Cay!!
Great Guana Cay has excellent snorkeling and scuba diving. Located right on the island, Dive Guana has snorkeling and scuba diving trips, equipment rental, and power boat rentals. Other boat rentals at Marsh Harbor include Sea Horse Boat Rentals, Rainbow Boat Rentals, and Blue Wave Boat Rentals. Boats may be moored at the public dock on the Cay, or at Orchid Bay Marina. The 5 ½ mile white sand beach on the Atlantic side is one of the best (if not the best) beaches in the Bahamas. Great Guana Cay offers 4 restaurants, several snack bars, and the well known Nippers bar and grill with its famous Sunday pig roast.
Romantic walks on the beach, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, snorkeling and diving, deep sea fishing, American, International, and Caribbean food, beach bars with Caribbean music - Guana Cay has it all!!!
